SS&C’s 2017 Thailand User Conference

By: Rainer Fuchsluger

This past February, SS&C hosted the inaugural Thailand User Conference at the Compass Skyview Hotel in Bangkok. We were pleased to welcome over 50 guests representing 20 institutional asset management and insurance companies. The key themes at the User Conference were regulatory change, especially IFRS9, and SS&C’s best practices for resolving operational challenges.

The event kicked off with welcoming remarks from our Regional MD of I&IM Asia, Rainer Fuchsluger, and an overview of SS&C’s presence and commitment to Asia and Thailand from our MD of I&IM, KC Hong.

Next up, our guest speaker, Chayathorn Chanruangvanich (Victor), Director of Assurance at PwC, took the stage to share insights around IFRS9 regulation and the multi-faceted challenges and opportunities it presents. IFRS9 is a much-discussed topic among our Thailand based clients, and across Asia in general.

This set the stage for our Country Head, Inderjit Gawera, to discuss key market trends and themes we’ve been seeing, including market uncertainty and volatility leading to more interest in foreign assets, more clients turning to derivative securities to earn improved yields, increasing regulations, increasing competition requiring greater differentiation and diversification, increased scrutiny for IT costs, and the rising transaction volumes necessitating automation requirements. Inderjit then explained the SS&C approach and detailed case studies where SS&C has tackled similar challenges.

Overall, the Thailand User Conference was a success and we hope to see you there next year!
